SUBJECT: April 2025 Emma C. Smith Newsletter

April 1st, 2025
President's Message

Hello April!

Spring is almost here and with the flowers blooming causing allergies to flourish and random rain happening, we still have a bunch of great events happening this month! From the Read-a-Thon to PARENTS NIGHT OUT, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

As always, please take a look at the Volunteers Section to see if there's anything you can do to help. I can not stress enough how much it means when to the school, the kids, and the other volunteers, when you are able to help on events the PTA puts on. We can not continue to do the events with the limited volunteers we have, so PLEASE take the time to look at where and when you can help.

Hope you all had a great spring break,

Jessica Stevens

Read-A-Thon

Get ready….Get set…. READ!

What an amazing start to our READ-A-THON, Cougars! We are a quarter of the way to our goal of $20,000. These funds will be used to upgrade our science classrooms with brand new lab tables, creating an even more engaging and educational environment for all of our Smith Cougars. We hope you are as excited as we are about reaching, and hopefully exceeding, this goal.

Parents can now log their student’s reading minutes on pledgestar.com/emmasmith by each student’s name. PLEASE SET ONLY ONE READING ACCOUNT PER CHILD. Students will also receive a paper reading log to keep manual track of their reading time. Please ensure all minutes read are entered on Pledgestar by 6 pm on Friday, April 11th to count toward our Read-A-Thon minutes. Only minutes on PledgeStar will be counted towards individual and class totals.

Reading Rules:

Our goal is for each student to read a minimum of 20 minutes per day.

BINGO board completion minutes count towards your PledgeStar minutes. (Please submit completed Bingo boards to the office by Friday, April 11th)

Reading before or after school counts; reading during schooltime does not.

Being read to by other people counts as long as it isn't during school.

Reading aloud to others counts, and if you read to another Read-A-Thon participant, it counts for both students.

No guessing minutes. Please look at the clock or set a timer to track all minutes read. We've also capped the minutes that will count toward the Read-A-Thon at 4 hours per day. While we want to encourage reading, we also want them to have a balanced day. Any time spent reading above 4 hours, will not be counted toward their Pledgestar minutes.

For those new to Pledgestar or needing a refresher, you can find instructions on how to sign up at
